Presentation of Custom Acrylic Mirror PMMA
Extruded mirror PMMA is a widely used material that is still not well known by many people. It is sometimes referred to by other generic or commercial names such as: acrylic mirror, synthetic mirror, plastic mirror, PMMA mirror, Altuglas mirror, Plexi mirror, or Plexiglas mirror.
The chemical name of PMMA is Polymethyl Methacrylate.
Uses of Round PMMA Mirror – 3 mm
-
Circular mirror for interior decoration
-
POS display mirror to highlight products
-
Shatterproof mirror for children or workshops / industrial environments
-
Mirrors used in schools, nurseries, and hospitals as a safer alternative due to their resistance to breakage
-
Garden / outdoor mirrors (with specific installation considerations)
-
Mirrors for vehicles (motorhomes, caravans, etc.) thanks to their light weight and durability
Acrylic mirror is not a mineral glass mirror: the smaller and thicker the mirror, the better the reflection will be. The larger and thinner the mirror, the less accurate the reflection may be. For large formats, a greater thickness is recommended.
In general, acrylic PMMA mirrors are recommended for applications where traditional glass mirrors are not suitable due to weight, impact resistance, or ease of cutting and machining.
Advantages of Custom Acrylic Mirrors
-
Lightweight: only 3.6 kg per square meter, compared to 10 kg/m² for a traditional glass mirror of the same thickness
-
Impact resistant and virtually unbreakable
-
Good mechanical resistance
-
UV resistant
-
Easy to cut, drill, and machine, similar to hardwood
The 3 mm thickness is currently the most common and widely used acrylic mirror. Its balanced weight-to-rigidity ratio makes it a versatile product suitable for many different applications.
